Gangnam Hotel Review: The Westin Seoul Parnas Near COEX

img 3671

If you’re looking for a hotel in Gangnam that offers more than just a comfortable room, The Westin Seoul Parnas is worth considering.

The hotel is conveniently located near Samseong Station and Bongeunsa Station, with COEX and Parnas Mall also nearby. This makes it easy to go shopping, grab a meal, or spend most of the day without traveling far from the hotel.

During my stay, I spent quite a bit of time using the Westin Club Lounge, fitness center, and breakfast restaurant, so this review focuses on those experiences as well as the room itself.

1. A Convenient Location in Gangnam

One thing I liked about The Westin Seoul Parnas was that, beyond being close to COEX, you can also enjoy views of Bongeunsa Temple and the Gangnam cityscape from various parts of the hotel.

The hotel is within easy reach of both Samseong Station and Bongeunsa Station, while COEX and Parnas Mall are also nearby, making it easy to get around Seoul without spending too much time in transit.

The hotel itself also lists COEX, Bongeunsa Temple, and Parnas Mall among the major attractions in the surrounding area.

I found it especially convenient that I didn’t have to travel far for shopping or dining.

After checking in, I could simply head over to the mall, look around, grab a snack, and return to the hotel without making much of a trip out of it.

This is especially useful on hot summer days or when it rains.

If you’re planning to combine shopping, dining, and sightseeing in Gangnam, I found the location very practical.

2. A Comfortable and Well-Maintained Room

The first thing I noticed when I entered the room was the calm and clean atmosphere.

The room features Westin’s signature Heavenly Bed, and the bedding was comfortable enough to make it easy to relax after spending the day exploring Seoul.

There was also a small table next to the TV, which was useful for working on a laptop or having a quick snack.

The room didn’t feel cramped, and there was enough space to work or simply relax.

The minibar was stocked with drinks and snacks, but I didn’t use it much. There are plenty of convenience stores and shopping options nearby, so it was easy to pick up anything I needed outside.

I mostly used the complimentary coffee and bottled water provided in the room.

The Bathroom

The bathroom was also clean and well maintained.

The basic amenities and toiletries were provided, so I didn’t find myself missing anything during my stay.

One of my favorite moments actually came later that evening. After having dinner and drinks at the club lounge and getting some exercise, I went back to my room and took a relaxing bath.

After spending the whole day around Seoul, it felt good to finally slow down and properly relax.

3. The Westin Club Lounge

The Westin Club Lounge was probably one of my favorite parts of the stay.

The lounge offers views of Seoul along with dedicated breakfast, Sweet Delight, and evening cocktail service.

I visited the lounge during the daytime and later returned for happy hour.

Daytime & Sweet Delight

During the daytime, there were cookies along with cashews and other nuts that were easy to snack on with coffee.

During Sweet Delight, the selection expanded to include chocolates, tarts, and small bite-sized cakes.

I’m not usually a fan of overly sweet desserts, but I actually liked these quite a bit. They weren’t excessively sweet and paired especially well with coffee.

I enjoyed sitting in the lounge with a cup of coffee and looking out at the Seoul skyline for a while.

The view from the lounge was another reason I enjoyed spending time there.

Happy Hour

In the evening, the lounge changes into a more lively happy-hour setting with food and drinks.

The lamb chops with mint jelly, one of the more distinctive dishes, were good.

But surprisingly, the dish I remember most was the chicken tenders.

I don’t know what brand or product they use, but unlike some chicken tenders at hotel buffets that can become soggy, these were actually quite good.

I liked them enough to go back for more three times.

So if you see the chicken tenders and think they’re just another common buffet item, don’t skip them. I’d definitely recommend giving them a try.

The drink selection included Maker’s Mark along with several other options that worked well either on their own or mixed into a simple drink.

It was a good selection for having a casual drink alongside the food.

For me, the atmosphere felt less like a place for serious drinking and more like a comfortable evening where you could have dinner, enjoy some drinks, and take your time.

4. The Cosmopolitan Fitness Club

After eating all that good food, it was time to get some exercise.

The Cosmopolitan Fitness Club at The Westin Seoul Parnas is fairly large, with a good selection of equipment and a clean overall environment.

I found there was enough equipment to continue my usual weight-training routine while traveling.

The facilities also felt recently renovated and well maintained, which made the workout more comfortable.

Another thing I liked was the extended access available to hotel guests.

When you’re traveling around Seoul, it’s easy for the day to run late. Being able to work out later in the evening is a nice advantage for anyone who likes to keep up their regular workout routine while traveling.

If you’re the kind of person who feels like something is missing when you skip a workout for even one day, you’ll probably appreciate this fitness club.

5. Indoor Swimming Pool

I also had a chance to actually use the indoor swimming pool during this stay.

The pool was clean and well maintained, and the water temperature felt comfortable. I didn’t find it too cold, even after getting into the water.

I spent some time swimming and relaxing in the pool, and when I started to get tired, I could move over to the warm-water pool and take a break while looking out toward the outdoors.

That was probably my favorite part of using the pool. Being able to sit in the warm water, relax, and look outside made it feel more like a place to unwind rather than simply a swimming pool.

According to the hotel’s guidelines, guests must be at least 110 cm tall to use the swimming pool. Children between 110 cm and 150 cm must be accompanied by a parent.

The other fitness club facilities, excluding the swimming pool, are for guests aged 18 and over.

If you’re traveling with children, it’s worth checking these requirements before your stay.

After actually using the pool, I’d say it’s a good option for anyone who wants to include some pool time in their hotel stay. The comfortable water temperature and warm-water pool made it easy to spend some time there without feeling rushed.

6. Eat, Work Out, Take a Bath, Sleep

That evening, I enjoyed some food and drinks at the club lounge before heading to the fitness club for a workout.

After that, I went back to my room and took a long bath.

Good food, a workout, and a relaxing bath.

By the time I got into bed, I was ready to sleep.

I ended up having a really good night’s sleep.

I liked that I didn’t need to plan anything special to have a satisfying evening. Eating, exercising, and relaxing at the hotel was enough to fill the night.

And once you wake up, of course, it’s time for breakfast.

7. Breakfast at On:Table

The next morning, I headed down to On:Table on the first floor.

On:Table is the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant, and breakfast is served there.

Once you arrive at your table, a staff member takes your drink order and brings it to you.

Overall, I thought the breakfast quality was quite good.

What I found interesting was that the buffet wasn’t limited to the usual hotel breakfast items. There were also a few dishes that you don’t see as often at a typical hotel breakfast.

The first thing that caught my attention was the Eggs Benedict topped with caviar.

It’s not something you see at every hotel breakfast, so I had to put one on my plate.

There was also morning steak, which is a fun option if you’re the type of person who doesn’t mind having steak for breakfast.

Another surprisingly memorable dish was the Korean-style meatball, or donggeurangttaeng.

It’s not something I usually expect to see at a hotel breakfast buffet, but the quality was better than I expected, so I gave it a try.

Overall, I enjoyed the breakfast not just because of the variety, but because there were a few less-common dishes that made the buffet more interesting.

After a good breakfast, I was ready to head back out and start another day in Seoul.

8. Practical Tips for International Travelers

Location & Transportation

The Westin Seoul Parnas is located at 524 Bongeunsa-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

The hotel is within easy reach of Samseong Station on Line 2 and Bongeunsa Station on Line 9.

COEX and Parnas Mall are also nearby, making it convenient to combine your hotel stay with shopping and dining.

If it’s your first time visiting Seoul, using COEX as a reference point can also make the hotel relatively easy to locate.

English Communication

English-speaking staff are available at the hotel.

As an international hotel brand with many international guests, I found the hotel generally easy to navigate for English-speaking travelers.

If You’re a Marriott Bonvoy Member

If you’re a Marriott Bonvoy member, it’s worth checking your membership benefits and the club access conditions of your room before booking.

If you qualify for Westin Club access, it can change the overall experience quite a bit. You can enjoy Sweet Delight, evening happy hour, and breakfast without having to leave the hotel.

For me, this was one of the things that made the stay feel more like a full hotel experience rather than simply a place to sleep.

What I Liked

The biggest thing I liked about this stay was how naturally the entire day came together inside the hotel.

I spent the afternoon having coffee and desserts at the club lounge, then moved on to happy hour in the evening.

After that, I worked out at the fitness club, went back to my room, took a bath, and went to bed.

The next morning, I had breakfast at On:Table before heading back out into Seoul.

I didn’t need to go anywhere special to have a full day.

What I Didn’t Like

The main downside is the price.

The Westin Seoul Parnas isn’t the type of hotel I’d recommend if you’re simply looking for an inexpensive place to sleep.

If you’re going to spend most of your time sightseeing and only return to the hotel at night, the room rate may feel harder to justify.

The hotel’s strengths are more noticeable when you actually use the club lounge, fitness center, swimming pool, and breakfast.

If you plan to spend some time enjoying the hotel itself, however, the price becomes easier to understand.

10. Final Thoughts

If you want to stay somewhere convenient for COEX and Gangnam while also enjoying good food, a proper workout, and some downtime without leaving the hotel, The Westin Seoul Parnas is a solid choice.

What I remember most from this stay wasn’t one particular facility, but the way the whole day flowed.

Desserts and happy hour at the club lounge, a workout at the fitness center, a relaxing bath in the room, and breakfast at On:Table the next morning.

The hotel itself became part of the itinerary.

If you’re able to use the club lounge or you’re someone who likes to keep up with your workouts while traveling, I think you’ll get more out of a stay here.
